The Messerschmitt Me 163, nicknamed Komet in German, was the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft to enter service and the first aircraft to exceed 1000 km/h (600 mph). Revolutionary in design, it had a performance unattainable by other aircraft of its time.
According to some experts it could have drastically changed the outcome of the air battle in German skies.
