Saruman

Saruman the White prior to the War of the Ring and his corruption to evil.

This restrained scene shows Saruman during one of his many journeys to the East, before the corruption of the Ring took hold of him.
He is the leader of the Istari, wizards in human form sent to Middle-earth by the Valar with the intention of defeating Sauron.

“In the west of Middle-earth appeared the Istari, whom men called the Wizards […] and only to Elrond and Galadriel it was revealed that they came from beyond the Sea. [Of these Curunír [Saruman] was the eldest and came first. […] Curunír walked chiefly among Men, and was subtle of speech, and skilled in smithy».
